I nodded, looking up at him. His breath came in heavy bursts, his cheeks flushed from the night air. His blue eyes smiled and his lips glistened. I suddenly remembered back to him watching me licking my hand all those weeks ago, and how he’d gazed at my tongue. I felt myself go warm, my whole body on fire.

He wasn’t the guy I’d thought I’d end up with. He wasn’t an athlete with a body like Luke’s. But, as he stood there, biting his lip, I knew that I wanted him. I’d never found anyone more attractive.

‘Nick,’ I began, not knowing how to finish.

‘Amy.’ He seemed just as confused as I was, incredibly unsure. It was the least movie-like moment I could imagine. Where was my wit? Where was the line I’d use to make him fall for me? I wracked my brain, trying desperately to think of something amazing to say —

And then he kissed me.

He grabbed my shoulders and pulled me tightly to his chest, closing the electrical gap between us. Our lips met in a passionate embrace, sparks flying.

The kiss went on forever, our mouths pressed together, searching, exploring and exploding with lust. My body melted into his, trying to get closer, to prove that it was real. I couldn’t believe this was happening.

‘Nick,’ I said again, pulling away. He looked as dishevelled and flushed as I felt. His eyes sparkled.

‘Amy,’ he repeated again. I needed to say something, to tell him how I felt.

‘I, um, I’m sorry again,’ I said, grinning like an idiot. ‘I really, really like you.’

‘Good,’ Nick replied, ‘because I’m a little bit in love with you.’

My heart fluttered in my chest. He loved me!

He loved me. Amy Detrinella, daughter of a famous pop star and ex-bitch extraordinaire. Never in my wildest dreams had I thought that he’d say those words. I couldn’t believe this was happening! Could this moment be any more perfect?

Nick gently placed his hand under my chin and drew me closer. We kissed again, his lips on mine. Desire burned within me as I melted into his slow, passionate embrace. We pulled apart for air, and I smiled at him again. A streetlight shone above us, our own personal spotlight.

I’d never felt so happy.

‘Walk on the beach?’ Nick asked. He sounded as joyous as I felt, his voice light and hopefully.

‘Definitely.’

I took his hand and we walked, just another two Stevie D fans disappearing off into the night.

For the first time in months, I felt okay. I wasn’t losing anything anymore. I had found my way home.

The Lies We Tell

by Elizabeth Dunk

From the author of Arranged to Love comes a romantic story of forgiveness, secrets, small towns and second chances.

Ten years ago, Todd Lansing stood over his father’s grave, his heart thumping out curses on Sia Collins for causing his death. When he returns to Oberon and sees Sia again, his heart thumps with a different emotion, one he fights with all the anger he still feels.

Sia didn’t commit the break-in that ended up killing Mr Lansing, but to admit that would send her father to jail. She has rebuilt her life in the small town, atoned for her accused crime, and carved out a niche using her talent with paint to reach out to the community, raise funds, and support her family.

When Todd finds out the truth, he can’t understand why Sia won’t speak out and clear her name, and it threatens to tear them apart. With her relationship with Todd on the line, will Sia choose loyalty or love?
