Captain Jeremiah Parker for helping me set scene at Bagram, explaining how military transport to Afghanistan might work and what day-to-day deployment in the Middle East was like. (By the way—it’s not a coincidence one of the knife-wielders is named “Parker” – the Parker clan has a long history of distinguished soldiers and military service. I’m very proud to have married into this family).

My children, Tanner and Alexandra, for their enthusiasm, patience and love. I love you both more than there are stars in the sky.

Kendra C. Highley lives in north Texas with her husband and two children. She also serves as staff to two self-important and high-powered cats. This, according to the cats, is her most important job.
