Thank you,” he said with relief in his voice.

You're welcome,” she said.

Where is your soap?” he asked.

Kailani rolled her eyes and handed him the bar of soap.

Great,” he said, sniffing at the perfumed soap. “I'm going to smell like a woman.”

You shouldn't complain when I saved you from the spider.”

He moved the shower curtain aside and looked at her. “Who's complaining?”

It sounds like you are,” she said, barely able to speak. He wasn't hiding
anything
and everything he had was
perfect.
She moved closer. “I got my hands dirty when I was carrying that soil,” she told him.

He took her hand in his and drew it beneath the water, gently massaging and lathering her slender hand with soap.

She stepped into the shower, sun dress and all and he gazed at her. Kailani reached down and pulled the dress up over her head and tossed it out of the shower. He came closer.

The hot water from the shower beat against his back and he leaned forward, cupping her face with his hand and kissing her lips. His hands traveled over her skin and she felt the strong maleness of his form against her. Kailani clung to him as he kissed her neck and shoulders.

Without needing instruction, he turned the water off, handed her a towel and dried his body off. He picked her up into his arms and Kailani squealed with delight.

You do want to come with me, don't you?” he teased.

Yes but no one has ever carried me to bed,” she said, laughing.

Is that where we're going?” He feigned innocence. “You don't have a tiger in there, do you?”

She smiled at him and touched his chest with his fingertips. “You'll see,” she said.

He smiled and carried her from the bathroom to her bedroom, laying her carefully on the linen sheets.

He kissed her again, sheltering her body with his. “Any second thoughts?” he asked, in a husky voice.

No,” she said and smiled up at him. She didn't have any second thoughts. He was the ice cream sundae she shouldn't have, the extra piece of pie topped with whipped cream and Kailani knew there were things in life that were too good to pass up. “I want you,” she said.

When he began to move with her, Kailani's world became a hot blur of passion and excitement. He moved slowly, with expert precision and his hands were gentle as they moved along her body.

Josh kissed her lips and left a trail of fire down her neck. Kailani began to breathe short, gasping breaths and she put her fingers through his dark, wavy black hair and moaned.

He buried his face against her breasts, kissed and suckled until she was pulling his hair, begging him for more.

Josh looked up at her face. He'd wanted to take more time with her but her hips were moving toward him and she was whispering, “Now, now, now...” He smiled and entered her, watching as her face change to contentment and satisfaction. Josh began to rock his body against hers, moving his hips with an athletic ability. He could tell she wanted him to go faster. Her fingers were digging into his shoulders. Josh controlled the pace and moved slow, with a torturous but wonderful rhythm. The perspiration beaded on his forehead and the sides of his face when she grabbed his ass and began pulling him to her.

He moaned and gave into her, completely under her power. It was as if she'd possessed him. It was something no other woman had been able to do and he felt something stirring inside of his chest as he began to slam against her, giving her all that she wanted from him. He saw the sky merging with the sea. He understood the joining, what he'd been doing,
and becoming one with someone...with Kailani.

He arched his head back as she brought him to the height of his release. His entire body shuddered. Droplets of sweat dripped from his hair and ran down over his back. She'd taken all of his strength.

Kailani smiled as he lay down beside her in a weakened state. “Rawr,” she said.

He smiled at her. “Tigress,” he whispered, unable to find his voice.

You are very good at that,” she told him.

He chuckled. “You didn't give me a chance to do anything. I could please you so much more if...”

You did,” Kailani said, sitting up. “That was good!” She bounced off the bed, grabbed a towel and went into the kitchen. “Do you want some water to drink?”

Please,” he uttered. He rolled over and saw the picture on the nightstand. She was in another man's embrace and she looked very happy.

That's Keanu,” she said, coming into the room.

I...I understand,” he said, sitting up.

I don't,” she said. “I have no idea why I still keep it there.” Kailani reached over and picked up the picture. She tossed it into the corner where it landed on a laundry basket full of clothes. She smiled. “I'm sorry,” she apologized. “I wasn't planning to have anyone in here.”

It's all right,” Josh said, accepting the glass of water. “We all have a past.” He drank the cold water down and emptied the glass. “Thank you.”

She smiled at him.

What?”

I didn't see any pictures of anyone at your place,” she said.

I don't keep any.”

No one?” Kailani asked. She sipped at the water. “You've never had anyone special?”

No,” he said, “actually I haven't.”

Not even a first true love?”

I was moved around a lot Kailani,” he said. “There was one girl I thought I loved but her mother alerted the authorities and I was sent across the state to another foster home.”

That's sad.”

Yes, it was,” he agreed. “I was crushed. I suppose that is when I decided to guard my feelings so well.”

Ah, so you can't fall in love?” Kailani asked.

I didn't say that. I don't want to,” he told her. “It's painful.”

Yes it is,” she said, nodding her head. “Do you want some more water?”

No,” he said, meeting her gaze. “I want more of you.”

Chapter 9

Work!” Kailani exclaimed the next morning, rolling from the bed and jumping to her feet. She raced to the bathroom and back, looking at Josh. “You should come back to work,” she suggested.

I don't know Kailani,” he said, sitting up.

You have to do something,” she told him. “Hurry, we're going to be late!”

He smiled. “Did you notice that I didn't agree yet?” he called after her.

They miss you at the diner,” she told him. “Susana would want you to come back to work.” Kailani jumped into the shower, washed off and got out quickly, combing and braiding her hair. “Do you have anything else to do today?”

No,” he said, appearing in the doorway, “unless I can convince you to stay here.”

She smiled up at him as he kissed her forehead. “I have to work,” she told him, “and I have class later. I'm sorry.”

I suppose if I want to see more of you, I'll have to go back,” he said.

They dressed, finished getting ready and got into her car.

Were all of your things ruined by the volcano?” Kailani asked.

The house burned down,” he said. “There's nothing left.”

What about your car?”

I couldn't make the payment,” he said. “I had to give it up but, I'll start over. I'm used to this.”

You can stay at my place until...”

No Kailani, I don't want to do things that way,” he said, in a gentle voice. “I always have a great time when you're around but I'm used to taking care of myself. It wouldn't be right to move in now.”

Ok but if you change your mind,” she said, “the door is open for you.”

He smiled and traced his fingers over her shoulder. “That guy has no idea what he lost,” Josh said.

He wasn't very smart,” Kailani told him, grinning.

That's obvious,” Josh said, smiling at her.

Kailani laughed and drove to the diner. She smiled wide as she came through the door with Joshua. “Hello Lily!” she called out, greeting her.

You're 15 minutes late,” she muttered, “and you,” she said, looking directly at Josh, “left me stranded during a disaster!”

I'm sorry Lily,” he said, remembering who she was, “I didn't know the lava reached The Oasis. Was everyone at the restaurant all right?”

It didn't reach there. I'm just saying.”

His home was in the path of the lava Lily and we had to save the animals,” Kailani stated.

I know,” she replied in a rough tone, “I saw it on TV, over and over again. Sorry about your tiger,” she said to Josh and she went to the kitchen.

Maybe this wasn't a good idea,” he said, looking over the crowded diner.

She's jealous,” Kailani said, “and mean. She'll get over it.”

Joshua Chandler!” an older woman exclaimed. “There you are. Are we still on for tonight?”

Excuse me?” he asked. “I'm sorry. I've been having a rough time lately and...”

I paid in advance,” the woman said, smiling. “You're to escort me to the Luau on Waikiki Beach tonight, remember?” She offered her hand. “Margaret Blaine.”

Kailani lowered her gaze. The woman was well-dressed, wearing a silk blouse and gold jewelry sparkled from her movements as she touched Josh's chin. “Excuse me,” she mumbled and she flew into the kitchen.

What was she doing? What had she done? Was it back to business as usual for him? Her face burned with embarrassment as she put her purse into her locker.

Really Kailani,” Lily said, “you didn't think you were going to have a relationship with him, did you?”

Why are you always in my business?” Kailani yelled at her.

Honey, he's everyone's business,” she said, bumping into Josh on her way out of the kitchen.

Kailani, I'm sorry. If she already paid me...”

IF?”

I told you everything burned,” he said. “I had it written in the book...”

The book? I bet it was a big book,” Kailani yelled at him. “Well, don't you ever put my name in a book!” She left the kitchen and went into the crowded diner.

Your name wouldn't be in the book. You didn't pay...” When she whirled around, he backed up. “Kailani...”

Kailani picked up a pitcher of ice water and sent the water flying at him. “Write
that
in your book! Maybe that will cool you off!” She stormed away from him.

He went after her. “Kailani, can't you see this isn't my fault
?” he asked. “I forgot about Ms. Blaine.”

Kailani sneered and leaned close to him. “She is old, that one. She is more than 70 years old,” Kailani said in a low, evil whisper. “Spiders are going to crawl out of her and bite your pecker.”

It wouldn't be the first time Sweetheart,” he said, “Why do you think I'm afraid of them?”

Kailani glared and pulled her hand back to slap him but he caught her wrist.

You owe me $1,500.00,” he said and he dropped her wrist.

Infuriated, she shoved into his chest. “What you gave me last night wasn't worth a dollar,” she announced, “Mr. Fifteen Minutes!”

Everyone in the diner laughed and Joshua smiled at her. He cautiously approached and whispered in her ear, “I'll have to owe you the rest,” he said.

Chapter 10

Kailani went to class but she couldn't concentrate. In fact, the entire day had been a disaster. She couldn't think of anything or anyone Joshua Chandler.

While the professor was talking, Kailani was wondering if Josh were at
Waikiki Beach with Ms. Blaine. It didn't matter that he had nothing; she would provide him with clothes, money and pick him up in her car. Wasn't that the nature of the escort business?

She didn't want to think about him. Kailani wanted to forget everything that had happened. If she had only stopped to think for a moment, she would have foreseen what was going to happen when they went back to the diner.

It was his fault for being so adorable when he was afraid of the spider. He’d hug a tiger but he ran from an insect that was no bigger than his thumb.
