ShaKita agreed. “I have a few times because I love her and I wish she would clean her act up; especially since she has added another addition to her family. I even asked her to get her tubes tied this time, but she wouldn’t do it. I think that five children by five different dead beat baby daddy’s is just too much, especially when she don’t take care of them like she should.”

“Well, let’s face it. As long as someone is in her life feeding her alcohol, pills, and no telling what else then we don’t have a chance at saving her.” Lauren explained. “We don’t like her man but I can say that he keeps a nice roof over her head. He provides her with the good and the bad and right now she doesn’t need us for anything.”

“She needs mom for a babysitter.” ShaKita stated.

Kerry shook her head. “But you know mom is not gonna tell her no when she drops off the kids. No telling where that crazy girl would have them.”

“I’m just mad that she didn’t show up tonight. Then she wouldn’t be the subject of the party but more like the life of the party.” ShaKita stated.

Kerry took the top off of the Ciroc bottle and drank from it. “I just wish that we were still all close like we used to be. It’s like we have our own little families and problems till we have no time for each other. Besides talking on the phone, these monthly get-togethers are the only time we hang and sometimes that don’t even go as planned. Our kids need to be just as close with each other as we were growing up.” She drank again from the bottle then passed it to Lauren. “There’s no excuse why it shouldn’t be that way. It’s already bad enough that Janay isn’t here because she’s pregnant and is living on the other side of Atlanta. Plus, she’s dealing with her own shit.”

Lauren drank from the bottle then spoke up. “Well, I promise to do better. It’s just tough trying to juggle school full time and being a full time mom. It’s hard out here for a pimp. That’s the only reason why I keep my baby daddy’s old adulterated ass around.” Kerry and ShaKita grinned. “Without him, I’d be asking one of y’all for a place to stay.”

“Well, I have no excuses.” ShaKita responded. “I have no children and no man. I live alone and besides wanting to be the next top model, I have no job to go to. My life is pretty boring most times. Without cable TV I’d be moving in with one of y’all too.” They laughed out loud.

Kerry felt it was her turn to cut in. “Well, we all know that I’m busy working at that damn call center, trying to keep ends meeting. Not to mention that I have four rugrats running ‘round here aggravating the hell outta me and an ex-husband who left us for a tramp.” She smirked. “But even still I should have time for my sisters and their kids. We definitely need to do better. If only we could get Bianca away from that man of hers and get her clean then we’d all be on the same page.” She said as her house phone began to ring. Kerry frowned because the only people that ever called the house phone were either their mom or dad.

“It’s probably Justin calling.” Lauren teased. “I knew you were still giving him some of that fat ass on the low.”

ShaKita burst out laughing. “Do you think she’s still fucking that sneaky bastard?” she softly asked.

“He’s been gone for too long for her not have gotten horny yet and you know just as well as I do that she’ll fall back on what she knows first before she gets in with someone new.” Lauren whispered just as Kerry returned with a shocking expression on her face. “Why are you looking like that? Did we mess up your booty call?” She teased.

“Hush girl,” ShaKita cut in with a grin. “Who was on the phone?”

Kerry took in a deep breath trying to hold her composure. “It was mom and she was hysterical. Bianca and Kory have been in a terrible accident.” She gasped for air. “Whoever called her described it as a fatal accident.”

Lauren and ShaKita’s mouth dropped open. ShaKita immediately sprang up from the living room floor. “Oh my God!” she called out.

Lauren grabbed her chest; her eyes already filled with water. “Well, what did mom say? Does she know if it’s really known that there was a fatality?” she asked.

“Mom didn’t say. I don’t think she knows yet. She says the neighbor is going to watch the kids and she and dad are heading to the hospital now.” She paused getting a little choked up. “We also need to be on our way.”

Chapter2

The twenty minute ride to the hospital seemed as if it was hours as they rode in silence not knowing what to think. Bianca was one of them and even though she had fallen into some bad habits over the years, it was devastating for them to hear such unexpected news.

Lauren was the first to step out of the elevator as ShaKita and Kerry frantically followed closely behind her. As they neared the corner of the corridor, down from the waiting room, they bumped into their Father.

“Oh daddy,” Lauren gasped almost falling in his arms. He gently pressed his lips against her forehead to comfort her. “How is Bianca?” She immediately asked as the other two sisters stood back and embraced their selves for the worse.

“We’ve not heard anything yet.” He sadly said.

“Where is mom?” Kerry nervously asked.

The tall, handsome slender man tried to look as strong as possible for his girls. “She’s in the waiting room. I just walked out to get her something to drink. She seems okay, but the not knowing is worrying her to death.”

“We know the feeling,” Kerry responded as she kissed her Father on the cheek.

“She needs to see y’all. I think that’ll help soothe her some.” He said to Lauren and Kerry. “Baby girl come here.” He said hugging ShaKita who had began to cry. He wanted to comfort her as she walked with him in hopes that he could calm her down before she saw her mother.

ShaKita sobbed in his arms. “Daddy I don’t know what I’ll do if-”

He quickly cut her off. “Don’t think like that baby girl. We don’t know anything right now. So don’t work yourself up.”

“Yeah Kita, calm down,” Kerry said rubbing her lightly on her back. “Mom doesn’t need to see any of us upset like this.”

“I agree,” Lauren commented. “Come on Sis. Let’s go sit with her.” Lauren and Kerry headed toward the waiting room as ShaKita and their dad went in the opposite direction in search of a vending machine.

**********

Stepping into the waiting room was very touching as Lauren and Kerry tried their best to contain their emotions. There were already three people waiting in the room along with their mother as they noticed her sitting far left in a chair with her head down praying. They could tell that she was upset, but praying was more than likely the comfort that kept her from losing it. Kerry sat down in an empty seat beside her and gently rubbed up and down her mother’s back. She looked up from her praying hands and smiled a little as she saw her daughter’s sweet faces.

“Hey mom,” Lauren softly spoke. Kerry just smiled at her and kissed her softly on the cheek.

“Hey girls,” her sweet voice responded.

“We saw daddy in the hallway. He told us that y’all haven’t heard anything yet.” Kerry stated.

“No we haven’t, but we just got here too so hopefully we’ll hear something soon.” She responded.

Lauren looked over at the other people in the waiting room as they wept quietly. She didn’t want her family to ever feel that way. One of the women made their way over to them.

“Excuse me, I don’t mean to disturb y’all but I had too.” Lauren and Kerry looked at the woman strangely. “My name is Mary and my son’s girlfriend, Bianca, looks so much like y’all and I’m here because we’d gotten a call that he’d been in a terrible accident.”

“My mom had gotten the same call.” Lauren spoke up. “We are Bianca’s sisters and this is my mom, Lena Ware.” Mrs. Ware just nodded as a nice gesture of speaking.

“I just wanted to know if y’all knew any other information concerning the accident. Did they mention anything that could shed some light on what happened when they called you?”

“No,” Mrs. Ware answered. “She was supposed to be with her sisters.”

“Unfortunately she wasn’t,” Lauren mumbled thinking that it didn’t surprise her one bit that Bianca’s bad habit of a boyfriend was involved in the accident with her. Everyone knew that their relationship was toxic, but no one could separate them.” She sadly looked down with pondering thoughts.

“The only thing I know is that my son was apparently thrown from the car.” Mary started to cry, hardly able to stand to her feet. “Lord, I just pray that they’re okay.” She called out as another woman came over to console her. By this time ShaKita and their Father was walking into the waiting room followed by a doctor.

“Excuse me,” the doctor called out. “Are there any relatives here for Bianca Ware?”

“Yes, I’m her father; this is her mother and sisters.” Mr. Ware spoke.

“Would you please step out in the hallway with me? I have some news about your daughter.” He said as the family fearfully followed him. Once out in the hallway he began to talk.

“Your daughter was in a fatal accident that caused her severe head trauma.”

Mrs. Ware broke down at just hearing the word fatal already thinking the worse. “Oh my God! Not my baby!” She cried out as her husband hugged her.

The doctor immediately spoke up. “She’s still with us.”

Mr. Ware let out deep sigh of relief. “Thank God,” he said wiping his eyes. “It’s okay Lena, it’s okay.” He assured his wife.

The doctor continued. “She is unconscious and not fully breathing on her own, but we’re hopeful. Because she is in such a critical condition, we’re keeping a close monitor on her.”

“I need to see my baby. Please, can I see her?” Mrs. Ware immediately asked trying to catch her breath.

“Yes, but only one visitor at a time. Just head toward the Intensive Care Unit and stop at the front desk. Someone will direct you to where she’s at. There is another waiting room on that end for the rest of the family.”

“Thank you very much,” Mr. Ware said as the doctor walked off. As the family made their way down the corridor toward the ICU section they could distinctly hear Mary scream out at the top of her lungs. The horrific shrill of her crying sent chills up their spines. Sadly, they knew exactly what news that she’d just gotten.

**********

Lauren sat in one of the chairs inside the waiting room with her leg crossed and her foot shaking rapidly. No one had said a word since they’d made it in there. The thought of even talking about what they’d heard moments earlier was still unbelievable. Even though she hated Bianca’s boyfriend with a passion, she never wished death on him. He was definitely a big provider in helping Bianca consume all of her demons, but it didn’t start with him and they all knew it. Regardless of how it all went down; he unfortunately paid the ultimate price for it.

ShaKita sniffed in between crying. She was sad that Bianca’s boyfriend had lost his life, but grateful that her sister survived. It was definitely a hard pill to swallow because nobody won. Someone lost a son, a brother, an uncle, and her niece lost a father. It was devastating to say the least and the hardest part was to tell Bianca that her boyfriend and baby’s father was dead.

Kerry stood in the hallway alone. She just wanted to get herself together. The devastating news could have easily been about her sister and it shook her to the core. She and Bianca had gotten really close over the two years that she lived with her. It wasn’t until she asked her to move out that Bianca started resenting her a little, but even still she loved her a great deal and had been looking forward to sharing the night with her to reconnect.

If only she had come to the party like she said that she would
, she thought wiping her tears. The thought of her being unconscious was devastating to her. She’d do anything to bring her sister back. She just wanted to silently pray for her mental return and hopefully she’d be a changed person when this was all over with.

She looked inside the waiting room through the glass window and saw the pain that their father felt. For some reason, Bianca always seemed to be his favorite. Maybe it was because she was the troubled one and all he wanted to do was make things right. It didn’t’ make it any better that she’d been taken advantage of by a man that was fifteen years older than her when she was only thirteen and had gotten her pregnant. She was too far gone by the time they had found out and nine months later, at the age of fourteen, she was having her first son.

**********

Mrs. Ware stepped inside the small private room where Bianca lay with tubes going down her throat and machines hooked to her body monitoring her vitals. Just the sight of this made her want to fall to her knees and cry. She loved her baby more than anything in the world and it hurt like hell to see her in this way.

She gradually walked over to her bed, placing her hand on top of Bianca’s warm hand and cried like a baby. She couldn’t understand how a child that was so loved from the moment she’d been conceived could turn out the way she did. She was like her tyrant, the rotten child, the rebellious one that always did what she wanted to do. She wasn’t crazy about authority and didn’t take advice very well. It was almost like they owed her something, but how could they owe a person that they’d already given so much too.

Mrs. Ware stood over her daughter and wept for her. She was only thirty-two years old and had already gone through more than anyone she’d known. At the age of fourteen she’d had her first child and by the age of thirty-two she’d had her filth one, a daughter that was now just four months old.
