“O
H THIS
is going to be fun,” Amber says with a mischievous grin on her face. She is so beautiful. Even more beautiful now that she’s carrying our baby...babies. That’s still going to take some getting used to. I help her out of the truck and we make our way into the bar.

When we walk through the doorway, all eyes are on us. Everyone looks very anxious to hear why they’re here. Poor Beasley looks the most nervous. Holly looks like the cat that ate the canary because she thinks she knows what everyone else doesn’t. She’s going to be surprised when the little triplet bomb is dropped in her lap. Paul quiets everyone and I look over at Amber, silently questioning. She shakes her head and gestures for me to tell the news.

“Okay, well we wanted you all here today so we can share some pretty big news with you. Amber is pregnant!” The room explodes — people are yelling congratulations, women are teary eyed. It’s wild, to say the least. I lift my hand and try to quiet everyone down again. “We had an ultrasound today. They found something we weren’t expecting.” I pause for a moment, letting the suspense build. Yeah, it’s an asshole thing to do, but it is going to be so funny when I see the look on their faces. “There were three little blobs on the ultrasound instead of one.” I wait for it to register. I think Beasley puts it together first by the beaming smile that spreads across his face. Then Holly is next. No one can miss when it sinks in for her. She comes running to us and wraps us both in a hug.

“Triplets! Are you serious! I can’t believe it. You’re gonna get huge!” Poor Amber pales. I bet it hadn’t crossed her mind that she’ll be three times bigger than normal. I’ll have to reassure her later. Beasley squeezes his way through the crowd to get to his daughter. He looks so excited. Amber pulls out the ultrasound photos and begins to show them. I’m finally able to make my way to the side of the bar where things are a little calmer. Paul is waiting for me with a beer.

“You don’t do anything half ass do you? Can’t just produce one baby, can you? Do you have some kind of super sperm?” Paul says in between laughs and me flipping him off.

“Don’t be jealous. Not everyone can be as awesome as I am.”

“I hope you’re awesome at changing diapers, ‘cause there are going to be a whole lot of them.” He’s laughing again. I pale at the thought. Triple the diapers. Triple the feeding. Triple the crying. They are all going to be driving at the same time and going to college all at once. “Here, you look like you need this,” Paul says as he slides the shot of whiskey in front of me. I give him a nod and throw it back.

“Better give me one more. Actually, two more. One for each baby. I think I’m still in shock.” I’m only half teasing. This is going to take some time to fully sink in. I sit and talk to all of the guys for a while and let all of the women “ooh” and “awe” over Amber and the ultrasound photos. Of course, Holly is already planning the baby shower.

Beasley finally pulls himself away from Amber and makes his ways to the bar. He sits down on the stool next to me, his smile still running from ear to ear. I’m so glad Amber will get to share this with him. I look over at Beasley who raises his beer for a toast.

“To my daughter and son-in-law. Thank you for making me a very happy man. Not only have I gotten the chance to be the father I’ve always wanted to be, but now I’ll get to be a grandpa,” he says with so much pride and excitement in his voice, it starts to choke me up.

“I’m sure it was all Kyle’s pleasure. Ya know, knocking up your daughter,” Angel says with a wink in my direction. Leave it to Angel to tank a nice heartfelt moment. Paul spits his beer out and sprays Marcus and Clark. I just stare at Angel. It’s typical for him. Only thinking about the sex and not thinking about the fact that Beasley doesn’t want to hear about how his daughter got pregnant. After what seems like an eternity of silence, Beasley starts laughing. Not a chuckle, but a full-blown belly laugh. That’s not what I expected.

“What’s so funny? Please don’t encourage Angel, he has no filter,” I say him.

“It’s not what Angel said, it’s the looks on the faces of the four of you. It’s not like I don’t know where babies come from. I’m not some old prude. That doesn’t mean I want to hear any of the specifics, though,” he says with a chuckle and a glare to Angel telling him the subject is closed.

“Congrats, KC. I’m off to go make a lovely lady a very happy lady,” Angel says before emptying his beer. He gives Amber a kiss on the cheek before walking out the door. I wish he would settle down. He’s the only one of us four that I think would love the rocker lifestyle. I’m so glad I didn’t follow that path any further. If we would have hit it big, I think leaving it behind would have been very difficult. I love playing music, but I also love my privacy. I like that I don’t have to be traveling and away from Amber. I never wanted to be famous and play huge stadiums. That’s just not me. I like my quiet, normal life, especially now that I’m gonna be a dad.

“Kyle, I’ve got my friend digging into Jax and Leena. He said he’ll get back to me as soon as he finds something,” Beasley says, pulling me out of my thoughts.

“You sound confident that there’s gonna be something to find.”

“I am. I’ve never trusted the guy. I just have a gut feeling he’s not the friend to Amber he pretends to be.”

“Is it your cop or fatherly gut that tells you he’s up to something no good?”

“A little of both. We need to keep a close eye on him. Nobody is hurting my daughter again on my watch.”

“I’m right there with you. Not only do we have to protect her, but we have the babies to think of now too. Do you think he is a physical threat like Beau was?” A pained look flashes across Beasley’s face. It matches the stabbing feeling I get in my chest every time the name Beau comes up.

“I’m not sure. I don’t think so, but look where that got us before. We just have to pay close attention to everything he says and does.” Just thinking about this makes my stomach turn. I have wanted to punch that fucker in the face since the first day I met him. The slightest reason is all I’m gonna need to kick his ass right back to Georgia.

I hear Paul whistle. When I look up at him, there’s a smile a mile wide on his face. I turn and look behind me to see what he’s smiling about. Amber, Holly, and Taryn are all out on the dance floor. The way these girls are moving to
Bottoms Up
by Brantley Gilbert makes me very happy that this is my bar and the only people in here know not to mess with these girls. There’s something sensual about the beat of this song. Top it off with Amber out there moving her hips to the beat with her arms raised makes me hard as a rock. She’s looking right at me. She knows exactly what she’s doing to me. This woman is gonna kill me. Guess we had better get it out of our system, ‘cause once these babies come, I don’t see a whole lot of sex or sleep in our futures. I’m in awe of her as I watch her move around the dance floor. I cannot believe she’s carrying our babies. I didn’t think it was possible to love her more than I already did. Since finding out she’s pregnant, I have fallen for her even more.

When the song ends, Amber hugs and says goodbye to the girls and a few of the guys. The closer she gets to me, the more I think I may not be able to wait until I get home.

“Take me home, cowboy,” she whispers against my ear. I wasn’t going to argue. I yell bye to Paul and lead her out the door.

so hard. I don’t think it’s going to work this way,” I tell Kyle.

“Maybe if you lay flat it will work better.” I lay back. I’m already sweating and out of breath. This is a lot more work than I thought it would be. He carefully tries again. I think this time he’s got it. Oh, that’s it. It just might work now.

“Just like that. Keep going. Don’t. Stop.” Just when it looks like it’s going to work, it doesn’t. He’s so close, but it just won’t go all the way in. “It’s too tight. I don’t think it’ll fit,” I snap. Poor Kyle, it’s not his fault. We have been at this for over forty minutes now and I still can’t get these damn jeans zipped or buttoned. It’s just not going to happen. I can’t believe this! Nothing fits. Not one damn thing! What the hell is going on? I shouldn’t be out growing out my clothes already. I have a little bit of a baby bump, but it’s only noticeable without clothes, or if you look really hard. I guess with triplets you grow three times faster also.
Ugh!

“Princess, why don’t you throw on some yoga pants and we can go shopping before you go to the center,” he says somewhat hesitantly, like I’m gonna snap his head off for the suggestion. I haven’t been that bitchy lately. Have I? Maybe I have been a little hormonal. Okay, a lot hormonal. I have good reasons for being the mega bitch though. I have morning sickness twenty-four seven, my boobs hurt, I’m exhausted all of the time, and now I can’t fit into any of my clothes. I’m only twelve weeks along, so it’s only just beginning. What do the next six months hold? Being a snapping bitch doesn’t suit me well. I need to relax and try to focus on the happy and exciting things. Not look at this like I am getting fat, but that our babies are healthy and growing. That’s it. That’s what I’ll do from now on. That and try to curb my attitude toward Kyle when he’s only trying to help.
